1. Hardworking – Most of the family of the OFW (Overseas Filipino Worker) don’t know how hard for this filipino worker abroad to work outside their country. Some might say it's their choice to work there why complain or tell stories about themselves to gain sympathy of others. In my thought most the people who said those things doesn’t have experienced working abroad yet. Filipino abroad work really hard no matter what task or job it is they really put an effort on it that is why many foreign employers prefer to have a Filipino employee than any other expats around the world.
2. Salary – It depends on the Qualification, Type of job, Employer, Country and Experience. Some of the OFW are being paid a big enough especially if they are already working very long time in one company. Some through experience, with a high experience on the field that they are into. But still there are those very unlucky to have a very low salary and take note that the work is really hard, I heard stories from a friend that they are working 20 hours a day the saddest part is no overtime, No Day Off, and Even just a little appreciation of the boss, Completely Nothing!..
3. Depression – This is crucial for some of OFW as they experience this type of very serious thing in life working abroad and can even lead to death.
So let us know the causes of depression for the Filipino working abroad
- Too much pressure from the family, some of the family thinks that the OFW is just easily working abroad not knowing how hard for him/her to sacrifice themselves being alone just to support their family.
- Can’t handle the stress in the workplace, Not all OFW are very lucky with the people in their workplace. Some of them are having difficulties to work with their fellow employee.
5. Overwork – I mention this already in my number 2 list. But just to put into details I will elaborate more about overwork.
- Most of OFW don’t really complain about their work hours just to stay in the company and support their family, imagine how hard it is for them to work really hard almost 20 hours a day.
- Some Employer takes advantage of Filipino worker for this as they leave them no choice but to just work for those abusive companies. Retail Store in particular, in some country some Filipino worker experience like being a slave. Forcing them to work as much as they can. We all know Filipino people won’t give up easily on whatever task you will give to them.
7. Food – People don’t know that most of the OFW pay for their own food even if it is in the contract some of the employer doesn’t follow most of the things listed on the contract. It’s good if you have food allowance but for some who doesn’t have food allowance, the small amount of salary they are earning will still be reduce by the food that they need to buy.
8. Contract – I heard a lot of reviews about contract some they said it is just for a show just to go abroad but some people don’t know that it is very important to all OFW to have a good contract and employer must follow them at all time. I’ve mention this in some of my list that employer don’t really follow what it is stated in the contract. People don’t really know that most of the OFW experience a breached of contract but still chose to continue their work for the company as they find it really hard to earn what they get abroad compare to their own homeland which is the Philippines.
